    What is Slack Notification?

Slack is a popular team messaging platform used by millions of teams worldwide. Xitoring's Slack integration delivers incident alerts directly to your chosen Slack channels, keeping your entire team informed in real-time without leaving their workflow.

    Why Use Slack Notifications?

    • Team visibility — Everyone in the channel sees the alert simultaneously
    • Rich formatting — Alerts include color-coded severity, details, and action links
    • Threaded discussions — Team can discuss incidents in context
    • Searchable history — Find past incidents easily in Slack search

    How to Configure Slack Notifications

Step 1: Create a Notification Role

    1. Log in to your Xitoring Dashboard
    2. Go to Settings → Notification Roles
    3. Click Create New Role
    4. Name it (e.g., "DevOps Slack Alerts")

    Step 2: Connect Slack

    1. In the notification role, click Add Contact
    2. Select Slack as the channel
    3. Click Connect to Slack and authorize the Xitoring app
    4. Select the Slack workspace and channel to receive alerts

    Step 3: Assign to Monitors

    1. Open your monitors
    2. Under Triggers, assign the Slack notification role
    3. Save the configuration

Step 4: Send a Test Message

    1. Click Send Test in the notification role
    2. Verify the message appears in your Slack channel

    Best Practices

    • Create dedicated alert channels (e.g., #monitoring-alerts) to avoid noise in general channels
    • Use different channels for different severity levels
    • Pin important ongoing incidents for visibility
    • Combine Slack with SMS/phone call for critical after-hours alerts
