What is Email Notification?
Email is one of the most universal and reliable notification channels available in Xitoring. It delivers alert messages directly to your inbox whenever a monitor detects an issue — such as a server going down, high CPU usage, SSL certificate expiring, or an uptime check failing.
Email notifications are included by default with every Xitoring account and require no third-party integration.
Why Use Email Notifications?
- Universal access — Everyone has an email inbox
- Detailed alerts — Emails can include full incident details, graphs, and links
- Audit trail — Every alert is saved in your inbox for future reference
- Team distribution — Add multiple team members to a single notification role
How to Configure Email Notifications
Step 1: Create a Notification Role
- Log in to your Xitoring Dashboard
- Navigate to Settings → Notification Roles
- Click Create New Role
- Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "DevOps Team Email")
Step 2: Add Email Addresses
- In the notification role, click Add Contact
- Select Email as the channel
- Enter the email address of the recipient
- Repeat for additional team members
Step 3: Assign to Monitors
- Go to the monitor you want to receive alerts for
- Under Triggers, select the notification role you created
- Save the configuration
Step 4: Send a Test Notification
- In the notification role settings, click Send Test
- Verify you received the test email in your inbox
- Check your spam folder if the email doesn't arrive
Best Practices
- Use distribution lists or group emails for team-wide alerts
- Set up email filters to prioritize critical alerts
- Combine email with a real-time channel like Slack or SMS for urgent issues
- Regularly verify that email addresses are still active
